Guided Nature & Mindfulness Hikes

Sunrise Hikes

Sunrise Nature Hikes are opportunities to go on guided hikes with a naturalist. They are designed to encourage curiosity, maximize appreciation, and create community in the many natural spaces throughout Washtenaw County. Each month, we will explore a different location and discover what is happening with the plants and animals during each season.

Mindfulness Hikes

These gentle, meditative walks—led by a naturalist and a wellness instructor—offer a chance to slow down and engage your senses. Designed to cultivate inner calm and a deeper connection with nature, these hikes invite participants to release stress and experience the quiet joy of simply being present in the outdoors

Sunrise Nature Hike

December 9, 830am – 1030am Bird Hills, 1850 Newport Rd, 48103

We are getting close to the winter solstice and although many plants, animals and birds have prepared themselves for sleeping through the long, cold months ahead, there are several species still out and about enjoying the frosty air. Come savor the brisk morning and see how the woody hills and ravines and all their inhabitants change as they prepare for winter’s long sleep. Proper winter gear and binoculars are recommended. Winter Wonder Walk

January 10, 10:00 - Noon, Northfield Township Area Library

January may seem cold and dreary, but the world is rich with subtle beauty and and invitation for exploration of the wonders of winter. Join naturalist Elle Bogle for a walk through the woods. We'll learn a little bit about what Mother Nature is up to this season and collect nature treasures along the way. After the walk, we'll gather inside around warm drinks and create mobiles out of what we've collected. These pieces of art are not only fun, but serve as a reminder to appreciate and enjoy what's happening in the natural world throughout the year. Gathering bags, twine, and scissors will be provided; just bring your coats, boots, and imagination. Register at ntal.org/events

New Year Mindfulness Mini-Retreat

Saturday, January 10, 1-4 pm - Gallup Park Meeting Room, Canoe livery building, Main Park entrance

Gallup Park Meeting Room, Canoe livery building, Main Park entrance
Winter is a time of quiet darkness and rest, but also of trust. Just as the trees drop their leaves in autumn, trusting warmth and light will return, so can we shed what no longer serves us and embrace our future growth. Spring will come in due time, but there are gifts which can only be found in the dark.  This half-day retreat will focus on embracing the winter season, paying particular attention to what nature teaches us. It will feature an outdoor guided hike, indoor guided reflection, and a creative project. Water and hot tea provided. Pre-registration is required. Register at wildwander.org. $40 fee.
